Last Sunday I started triathlon in Cologne over the middle distance. I had chosen especially for this competition, since so many friends to finally watching and cheering could come by because the competition was held just around the corner. After I had cast a glance at the entry list was also clear that it occupied one of the best middle distance of the year would be in Germany. The more I am glad that I finished the race with a really good result. The swim went without major problems and I came shortly after the second larger group behind the top of the water. On the bike I was at the beginning of something direct pressure, so I could catch up with this chasing group. Together with my team-mate Sebastian I was talking about the entire bike course in this group and tried to be as economical as possible in order not to go back while running to take. It should be noted that the group was run in very fair and everyone tried to keep required distance from the vehicle ahead. (Unlike some other groups that were seen on the track) was partly the pace very high and straight to the end of the 90km round the legs were burning but a bit. But just a great feeling at all to go with stars. Even while running, I could still get a good performance. I held back on purpose at the beginning a little to have to save some seeds for the second half of the half marathon and was able to prevent the intrusion. With a time of 1:26 h on the 21.1 km, including a spiral staircase I can still be very happy, especially when I consider that I was with the last two methods on the whole distance to 1km shorter sections 2 minutes slower on the road.
The goal I reached with a final time of 4:11:27, which earned me the 16.Gesamtplatz. This I have achieved my goal to finishing among the top 20. Particularly pleasing that I even or third was in the age group.
Sorry I could not participate due to organizational problems at the award ceremony, but I hope that the organizers will let me be as accommodating to medal and prize pick nachtraäglich.
All in all, I had a lot of fun with this competition, mainly because so many friends to cheer on the route.
